We’re approaching spring, so it’s time to bring out all of the smoothie bowls! I seriously love making smoothie bowls, but I don’t make them too often during the winter because it’s too cold for them. However, since it’s getting warmer where I live, I’ve been making more smoothie bowls lately.

I love smoothie bowls because they’re so easy to make and they’re jammed pack with nutrients. You can add all of your favorite toppings, and it’s a nice refreshing breakfast or snack to have when you’re craving something sweet.

To make this blueberry banana smoothie bowl, you only need 4 simple ingredients: frozen blueberries, frozen banana, chia seeds, and almond milk. This recipe is plant-based and has no added sugar in it. The sweetness comes from the fruit alone, which is used in place of sugar as a natural sweetener.

You can also add your favorite toppings to your smoothie bowl. For mine I added creamy natural peanut butter, which is one of my favorite nut butter spreads to use. The peanut butter I buy is all-natural and only contains peanuts and salt. It’s super tasty and is a good source of protein.

I also added pumpkin seeds, which I pretty much throw into all of my smoothie bowls because they’re tasty and add a nice crunch. Seeds are also really good for you, so it’s an easy way to make a breakfast of yours more nutritious. And lastly, I sprinkled some chia seeds on top. I also added chia seeds in the actual smoothie (as you’ll see in the recipe) because I really like them.

Ingredients you’ll need:

1. Frozen Blueberries

First, you’ll need frozen blueberries. My favorite are the frozen wild blueberries, but you can use any type of frozen blueberries you want. Blueberries are one of my favorite fruits, and they’re really good for you as well. Having a smoothie bowl for breakfast is a great way to start your day! It’s the perfect treat to have on a warm spring or summer day.

2. Frozen Banana

You’ll also need 1/2 of a frozen banana. You can just pop a few bananas in the freezer so they’re ready to go for smoothies and smoothie bowls. Bananas are so inexpensive which is why they’re one of my go-to fruits to buy. They also taste really yummy with the frozen blueberries.

3. Chia Seeds

You’ll also need chia seeds. Like I mentioned before, I seriously love chia seeds (and seeds in general). Chia seeds provide an extra crunch and they’re super nutritious.

4. Almond Milk

The last ingredient you’ll need is a plant-based milk of your choice. I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk, which is my favorite plant-based milk to use. It’s inexpensive and has no added sugar. However, you can use your favorite plant-based milk. Some other dairy-free milks I use from time to time are soy milk, oat milk, and cashew milk. Cashew milk is really creamy and oat milk is a bit sweeter than the other plant-based milks.

I like using an unsweetened plant-based milk because there is no added sugar in it, and I like to sweeten my smoothie bowls with fruit alone. The smoothie bowl was still super sweet with just frozen banana and frozen blueberries, but you could always drizzle some agave on top of the smoothie bowl if you prefer your smoothie bowls extra sweet.
