I don’t know about you, but I love donuts–I mean, they’re probably one of the best desserts to ever exist. I used to go to my local bakery and get a vegan donut every once in a while when I was craving something sweet, but I haven’t been in months.

The donut that I would typically get was some sort of peanut-butter chocolate donut. If it had peanut butter in it, that’s all I needed. But, since it’s been a while since I’ve had a peanut butter donut, I thought I may as well make my own batch at home.

And trust me when I say these donuts were phenomenal. I’m a sucker for any dessert with peanut butter and chocolate, but these seriously turned out so good. I also didn’t burn them, which is a plus.

Because these donuts turned out so good, so I will definitely be making more donuts in the near future. Fall is just around the corner, so that means it’s almost time to make a bunch of pumpkin-flavored desserts. Pumpkin donuts, pumpkin pie, pumpkin bars–the number of pumpkin-flavored desserts I can make are endless.

But for now, let’s talk about these peanut butter donuts. They melt in your mouth and are super soft. Nobody likes hard and crunchy donuts, so I made it a priority to make these donuts super soft and fluffy.

Here’s a breakdown of the ingredients you’ll need for this recipe:

1. Oat flour

There are so many different flours you can use for this recipe, but my personal favorite is to use oat flour. All you need to do is grind up oatmeal to make oat flour. It’s super easy and takes no time at all. Just make sure it has a smooth consistency so it doesn’t clump up.

2. Peanut butter

Ah, yes. This next ingredient is one of the main ingredients for this recipe–it’s peanut butter. Now, there are numerous different peanut butters you can use for this recipe, but make sure it’s creamy and not crunchy. You don’t want peanut chunks in your donuts!

Here is a link to one of my favorite peanut butters I use: Smucker’s Creamy Natural Peanut Butter.

It’s natural and only contains peanuts and salt. It’s also super tasty and great for oatmeal, toast, and smoothies.

3. Maple syrup

The next ingredient you’ll need is maple syrup. It’s one of my favorite sweeteners to use if I need an additional sweetener besides fruit. For this recipe, you only need two tablespoons. I like to keep the sugar to a minimum, but you can certainly use a sweetener of your choice if you prefer something other than maple syrup.

4. Vanilla extract

Next up is vanilla extract. It’s an ingredient that you don’t technically need, but I like adding a splash in to my dessert recipes. It gives it a nice flavor and a little goes a long way.

5. Mini vegan chocolate chips

I found these mini chocolate chips in the grocery store the other day that are dairy-free and it’s my new favorite ingredient to use in my dessert recipes.

I folded these into the donuts to add an extra bit of sweetness, and it turned out so good. These chocolate chips were really sweet, so I didn’t need to add much to the donut batter.

I used the Enjoy Life mini chocolate chips for this recipe. They’re vegan and super sweet, but if you can’t find these at your local grocery store, any will do just fine!

6. Banana

In order to make these peanut butter donuts moist and gooey, I needed an ingredient that would make these donuts soft. Thus, I settled for a mashed banana. I love using banana in my recipes if I want a more moist dessert.

One banana is all you need and is seriously the key in making these donuts so delectable and moist.

I like using fruit like banana, apple sauce, and dates to sweeten my desserts as opposed to using loads of table sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and artificial sweeteners. The best sugar to eat is natural sugar, so in addition to using fruit in my recipes, I’ll usually only use a bit of maple syrup. But, a little maple syrup is all you need to sweeten your desserts. It’s super sweet.

7. Almond milk

The last ingredient you’ll need is a dairy-free milk. I tend to use Almond milk for my recipes, but you can use oat, soy, or coconut milk. Any milk that is dairy-free will work for this recipe. Oat milk tends to taste a bit sweeter, so if you like your desserts super sweet, you might want to try adding oat milk instead of almond milk.

This is a super simple recipe that you can make with your friends and family when you’re craving something sweet.

It’s a highly nutritious dessert that is high in protein and low in sugar. You also only need seven ingredients for this recipe, and they’re ingredients you probably have lying around in your pantry.

Final Thoughts

Enjoy these donuts with a nice tall glass of almond milk, or just how they are. I like to sprinkle a few more mini chocolate chips on top, but they’re perfect as is. You can either wait for them to cool a bit, or eat them when they’re hot and gooey.

I hope you enjoy making these. Let me know in the comments below how they turned out!
