Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog! I was in the mood to make waffles, so I decided to use my new Dash mini waffle maker today. I’ve had the Dash mini pancake maker for some time now and I absolutely love it, so when I stumbled across this mini waffle maker the other day, I knew I just had to pick it up.
I haven’t made waffles in so long and I have seriously been missing out–they’re soo good! And what I love about my Dash mini waffle maker is that it only takes about 3-4 minutes for each waffle to cook. It’s so easy and makes waffles in no time.
For today’s waffle recipe, I made your classic chocolate chip banana waffles. This recipe calls for five simple ingredients: rolled oats, nut milk, banana, baking powder, and mini vegan chocolate chips. This is the perfect healthy breakfast recipe that’s both vegan and super tasty! The only added sugar in this recipe is from the chocolate chips, and you can use as many or as few as you’d like!
Waffles are incredibly tasty on their own, but I topped mine with creamy peanut butter, banana slices, and sprinkled a few more mini chocolate chips on top. You could also add nuts, coconut flakes, or sprinkles, so go crazy with the toppings. Peanut butter, banana, and chocolate is one of my favorite food combinations, and it’s incredibly tasty in waffles.
Ingredients You’ll Need:
1. Rolled Oats
The first ingredient you’ll need to make these delicious banana chocolate chip waffles is rolled oats. I love using rolled oats for my pancake and waffle recipes because it’s a super affordable ingredient, rich in carbs, and makes a filling breakfast. I almost always have oats for breakfast in some form–whether it’s in baked oats, muffins, pancakes, or waffles, so it’s definitely a staple in my diet.
2. Nut Milk
Next, you’ll need a nut milk of your choice. I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk that I bought from Aldi, but you can use any plant-based milk that you want. I also really like silk milk and oat milk. Using a nut milk makes the waffle batter rich and creamy, which is why I always opt for a nut milk as opposed to water. However, you can use water as your liquid base as well!
3. Banana
The next ingredient you’ll need is 1/4 of a banana. Since we’re making banana chocolate chip waffles, you’ll want to add 1/4 of a banana to your blender or NutriBullet and blend it with your other ingredients to form your waffle batter. Banana is super sweet and makes the waffles sweet, creamy, and tasy! I also sliced up some banana and added it on top of my waffles for some extra banana flavor and it was absolutely incredible.
4. Mini (Vegan) Chocolate Chips
Next, you’ll need mini vegan chocolate chips. I bought mini vegan chocolate chips from a local grocery store, but you can buy vegan chocolate chips pretty much anywhere. I also really like Enjoy Life’s mini chocolate chips and Lily’s vegan baking chips. There are so many vegan chocolate alternatives nowadays, so you should be able to easily find them in the baking section at your grocery store. I love adding a handful of chocolate chips to my waffles because it adds some sweetness and I personally LOVE chocolate.
5. Baking Powder
The last ingredient you’ll need to make these tasty waffles is 1/4 tsp of baking powder. Baking powder helps make your waffles fluffy and helps them rise.
