I already have a recipe up on my blog for chocolate protein donuts, but I wanted to share a recipe for chocolate donuts that didn’t use protein powder. Some people prefer to not use protein powder in their dessert recipes, so I wanted to have an option for a chocolate donut recipe that omitted protein powder.
I also love chocolate, so it gave me an excuse to make more chocolate donuts. This is a great recipe to make if you want a chocolate treat.
Ingredients
- Oat Flour: The first ingredient you need for this recipe is oat flour. To make oat flour, blend 1 cup of rolled oats in a blender.
- Baking Soda: The next ingredient you need is baking soda. This recipe calls for 1/2 tsp of baking soda.
- Truvia: The next ingredient you need is Truvia, or a sweetener of your choice. In this recipe, I used 3 tbsp of Truvia.
- Coconut Oil: Next is coconut oil. Make sure the coconut oil is melted before combining it to your donut batter. If your coconut oil is in clumps, heat it up in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds, or until melted. You need 1 tsp of coconut oil for this recipe.
- Almond Milk: You also need almond milk or a nut milk of your choice.
- Applesauce: The next ingredient you need is applesauce. Applesauce adds sweetness and helps with the texture of the donuts.
- Cocoa Powder: The next ingredient you need is cocoa powder. This recipe calls for 1/4 cup of cocoa powder. I used Hershey’s Unsweetened Cocoa Powder.
- Chocolate Chips: The next ingredient is chocolate chips. Some of my favorite vegan chocolate chips are Enjoy Life’s mini chocolate chips and Lilly’s baking chips. I folded 2 tbsp of chocolate chips into the donut batter, but you can also sprinkle some on top or add more into the batter if you want your donuts extra chocolatey.
- Vanilla Extract: The next ingredient is vanilla extract.
- Peanut Butter: The last ingredient is peanut butter. I used 1 tsp of creamy peanut butter for this donut recipe.
Directions
First, preheat the oven to 350°.
Next, blend 1 cup of rolled oats in a blender to make oat flour.
Then, combine all the dry ingredients in one bowl: oat flour, baking soda, Truvia, and cocoa powder.
Combine all the wet ingredients in a separate bowl: coconut oil, almond milk, applesauce, peanut butter, and vanilla extract.
Next, slowly fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients.
Fold in the chocolate chips.
Spray a donut pan with olive oil spray.
Make eight donuts on the pan.
Bake for 10 minutes at 350°.
Let cool and enjoy!
