Sweet Potato Fries–Oil-Free!
As much as I like French fries, sweet potato fries are often my go-to. I personally love sweet potatoes, and everything’s better in fry form! These turned out so good and are super crispy and delicious! Crispy fries are the best fries.

I used to buy potato fries and sweet potato fries all the time from the cafe at my college. They were ridiculously inexpensive and tasted delicious. They were probably the best fries that I have ever had.
It only cost $1-2 for a large box of fries, and I would often buy a box after basketball practice as a snack before I went to the library to study with my team. It was a weekly ritual of mine that I did quite often–probably more than I should have.
With that being said, they weren’t healthy and were often doused in salt and oil. While they were absolutely delicious, I knew that they weren’t the best for my health. While I was already vegan at the time, I wanted to eat more plant-based foods as opposed to processed foods and junk food.
Thus, I decided that it was the perfect time to make a batch of homemade sweet potato fries that were free of oils and salt.
I have been making a lot of potato fries recently, and while I thoroughly love homemade potato fries, I wanted to make a batch of sweet potato fries. I prefer sweet potatoes over regular potatoes, so I decided to whip up a batch of seasoned and flavorful sweet potato fries.
I decided to make a healthier version of fries because traditional fries are rich in oil and salt. Fries from a fast food chain aren’t the best for your health, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up fries all together!
Because you don’t have to. I personally prefer to not to use salt and oil whenever I can, because these are two ingredients that are hidden in pretty much every food. It’s hard to avoid, so I avoid it at all costs.
Spices, spices, spices. They’re key.
Spices are what make sweet potato fries so delicious–not the salt or oil. These sweet potato fries are heavily seasoned with the best spices on the market. Garlic powder and onion powder are some of my favorite spices to use when flavoring different foods. They are immensely powerful! Trust me on this one.
Spices add so much flavor to any food–you just have to know which spices to use. This recipe has very few ingredients and is 100% plant-based. It’s raw, healthy, and will satisfy your hunger. Eating plant-based foods is the key to maintaining a healthy diet!
Perfect Snack For:
- A barbecue
- Parties
- After-school snack
- Side Dish
Ingredients you’ll need for this recipe:
1. Sweet Potatoes
For this recipe, you’ll need two large sweet potatoes. I have recently been making sweet potato fries as opposed to traditional potato fries, and I honestly forgot how good they were.
Each different potato has different nutritional health benefits, which is why I love having sweet potatoes from time to time. Sweet potatoes are incredibly rich in beta carotene (as it’s an orange starchy vegetable) which has numerous health benefits.
One thing to note is that it can be a bit challenging to cut sweet potatoes into thin slices to make fries. Since it’s hard to cut through, you can either microwave the sweet potatoes in the microwave for a minute or two to make it easier to cut them, or just take extra precautions when cutting them!
I didn’t put them in the microwave before cutting them, but I noticed that it’s a bit harder to cut through them than a normal potato.
2. Garlic Powder
As for seasonings go, garlic powder is the ultimate seasoning you need to make these sweet potato fries. I used to never add seasonings to anything, but when I discovered garlic powder, I started adding it to literally everything.
Garlic powder is honestly good on anything. I add it to my creamy vegan Alfredo pasta and my tofu breakfast scramble.
3. Onion Powder
The next spice you’ll need for these sweet potato fries is onion powder. It goes along with garlic powder. Whenever I add garlic powder to a dish, I almost always add onion powder as well. They’re both super flavorful spices and really give the sweet potatoes a nice flavor.
If you’re not big on adding a lot of spices to your dishes, I highly recommend adding at least garlic powder and onion powder. They make a world of a difference and are seriously a gamer changer.
4. Cumin
Up next is cumin. This is another spice that I often use in my tofu scramble and pasta dishes. It’s another spice that has health benefits as well.
5. Pepper
Last but not least is pepper. I usually add just a dash of pepper to the fries because I don’t like super spicy foods. A little goes a long way with pepper.

Final Thoughts
If you have never made sweet potato fries, now is the perfect opportunity to make them. I use to always make potato fries, but when I started making sweet potato fries, I realized that I like sweet potato fries way better than traditional potato fries.
These fries are immensely flavorful and delicious. Better yet, they take less than an hour to cook including prep time and all. It’s a perfect snack to make to prep for the week so you have something easy to grab when you’re short on time. I like to make a batch of fries on the weekend so I have them ready to go during the week.
