Oven Baked Spaghetti Squash
Oven baked spaghetti squash is really easy to make in the oven. I find that vegetables (and most foods in general) taste better when you roast or bake them in the oven. Adding spices and other ingredients also gives recipes more flavor and this oven baked spaghetti squash recipe is one of my new favorite meals to make.
This recipe makes around four servings, however, it may be enough for more or less people depending on how much spaghetti squash each person has. The spaghetti squash makes around 4 cups. I like to mix spaghetti squash with regular pasta and add a protein source such as tofu, beans, lentils, or quinoa to make it more filling. I also like to add vegetables and a hummus or pasta sauce to give it more flavor.
How Long Does This Recipe Take To Make?
This spaghetti squash recipe takes around 50 minutes to make. Allow around 10 minutes for the prep. Prior to cutting open your spaghetti squash and adding your oil, salt, and pepper, you will need to heat the squash in the microwave for five minutes. This will make it easier to cut into the squash. After you’ve cut your squash open, add the olive oil, salt, and pepper. Then, the squash will need to bake in the oven for about 40 minutes. Let it cool for 5-10 minutes and remove the seeds from the squash. Lastly, you can put your meal together.
Kitchen Supplies You Need
- Baking Sheet: You need a baking sheet to bake your spaghetti squash on. I used a large baking sheet and baked my spaghetti squash in the oven for about 40 minutes.
- Metal Fork: You need a utensil such as a fork to remove the seeds from the squash. After your spaghetti squash has baked in the oven, let it cool and remove the seeds. I like to remove the seeds after it has baked in the oven because I’ve found that it makes it easier to remove the seeds.
- Measuring Cups: You need a 1 tsp measuring cup to measure out 2 tsp of olive oil.

Ingredients
- Small/Medium Spaghetti Squash: For this recipe, you need a small/medium sized spaghetti squash. Spaghetti squash is incredibly delicious roasted in the oven with the right ingredients. It’s the perfect start to any lunch or dinner, and it’s great paired with pasta, veggies, tofu (or another protein source such as beans, lentils, or quinoa), and either hummus or tomato sauce. I added hummus to my spaghetti squash to add creaminess to the squash and it was a very filling and delicious meal.
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil: You will need 2 tsp of olive oil. After I cut the spaghetti squash in half, I drizzled 1 tsp of extra virgin olive oil on each half of the spaghetti squash. Olive oil adds a nice flavor to the squash and it’s one of my favorite ingredients to use when baking or roasting squash or vegetables in the oven.
- Salt: You can use as much or as little salt as you want for this recipe. I added a dash of sea salt to each half of the spaghetti squash, but add more or less depending on how salty you want your squash to be.
- Pepper: Like with the salt, you can add as much or as little pepper as you want. I prefer to add just a dash of pepper, but you can choose your desired amount.
